Non-political outfit aimed at saving State interests formed

PANJIM: A group of youth has formed ‘Goan Youth Group’, a non-political outfit, to save the interests of the State. From taking up cleanliness drive to holding medical camps, the group has decided to come down heavily on those trying to create hatred and negativity in the otherwise peaceful Goa.
“Our Association will always have constructive approach, oppose vote bank politics and condemn those groups/NGOs which have only been working to create hatred and negativity,” Shailesh Velingkar, one of the members said at the outfit’s first press conference on Saturday.
With no central leadership and no inclination to join any political party, Velingkar said they would extend all support to either the ruling or opposition for works in the interest of the people of Goa. However, the group does not wish to merge with any political party nor contest election. “We are here only to serve the people and as our initial steps, we are holding medical camp and a cleanliness drive,” another member Siddesh Bhagat said.
The Goa Yuva Group supports the traditional tourist taxi operators claiming it is an age-old business run by the locals. The group has also clarified they do not support any “goondagiri” by some tourist taxi operators while equating government-backed GoaMiles app to scam. “Ola and Uber business will also not survive in Goa,” Bhagat added.
