Therefore, the CACCCF has decided to approach the joint chief electoral officer with the complaint that a large number of floating population has been enrolled as voters.
According to CACCCF Joint General Secretary Ashley Fernandes, on checking the newly updated electoral rolls of few booths in Cansaulim, Arossim and Cuelim, recently, they came across a large number of migrants who are part of the floating populations, enrolled as voters.
CACCCF claimed that many of these voters are not residing in Cansaulim Arossim Cuelim (CAC), presently, but they would be brought from outside the State to cast their votes by the power brokers of the village.
“The assembly electoral rolls have been updated as on September 15, 2016 and on going through the electoral roll we found that in Part 29 of Cortalim, 78 migrants have been issued voting cards. Similarly, in part 30, there are 60 migrants enrolled as voters and in part 31, there are 70 such voters,” he said.
“In every ward there are more than 50-60 voters do not live here nor have contributed a rupee to our village, but become decision makers of our lives and of our government. It was also surprising to note that in Part 31, floating population like migrant tenants have been enrolled and have since moved on. In a number of cases the tenants/ migrants have been enrolled twice under two different house numbers, which is unfair”.
Taking serious cognizance of the same, the CACCCF has decided to write to the joint chief electoral officer giving the list of ineligible voters who are holding two EPIC cards — one in their native place and another in Goa. The forum States that such voters would tilt the balance.
