Taking note of the high content of lead and monosodium glutamate (MSG) in Nestle’s Maggi noodles, Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) has asked the state FDA to examine the company’s other products.
Speaking to Herald, FDA Director Salim Veljee said, “We are also examining other Nestle products in Goa such as chocolate and milk products”.
Other noodle products and fast food eateries that sell noodles have also come under the FDA radar. Veljee said, “We will examine all noodle products available in Goa, which also includes fast food eateries that sell noodles.”
Asked when FDA will destroy the collected stocks of Maggi, he said, “Destroying of Maggi packets has not yet been decided. We are checking other products as well. After confiscating everything we will destroy all. Destruction will be properly documented.”
FSSAI and the state had instructed FDA to recall all Maggi noodle stocks in the State. Until Monday evening, Nestle had collected over 9,600 kg of Maggi noodles from 709 outlets.
