Not the Ides of March but the tides of July hit Goa Congress

PANJIM: ‘Beware of the Ides of March’ was a warning given to Julius Caesar about March 15 when he was assassinated. From then on it’s become a phrase of foreboding. However, for the Goa Congress, it’s not the ides of March but the tides of July that they should be worried about or more precisely July the 10th.

The all but official break in the Congress party on Sunday July 10, 2022, came exactly three years after 10 MLAs had defected and merged with the BJP.

The strength of Congress was then reduced to five in the Legislative Assembly. It was the third time, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) split since it had emerged as the single largest party by winning 17 seats in the 2017 Assembly polls.

Of the 10 rebel Congress MLAs, three were inducted into the Sawant Ministry while one was elected as the Deputy Speaker.
