NOTE ready to furnish all details: Dr Salkar

National Organization for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) India General Secretary Dr Shekhar Salkar has stated that the NOTE is ready to furnish all details to authorities to prove the transparency of the organisation.
Dr Salkar was reacting to press clippings on dailies dated February 8 in connection with Aldona MLA Dayanand Narvekar’s reported request to the chief secretary to investigate into functioning of the organization.
In a press note, Dr Salkar stated: “NOTE-India is yet to receive any communications from the chief secretary inquiring about its activities and financial dealings. We would be very happy to furnish all the details whenever such query is posed to us by the chief secretary.”
“I would like to place on record that NOTE India functions in a transparent manner and all our actions are within the framework of legal and moral stipulations,” adds the press note.
“We have been strictly following the guidelines of Central and the State government in utilization of the funds released by them to us. So also the funds released by WHO are utilized as per the Agreement for Performance of Work (APW) signed with them,” stated the press note.
“As the issue was raised in the Assembly, it will not be proper to make any statement in the press as it would have invited action under breach of privilege of the House,” adds the press note.
NOTE (India) is a National federation of 20 Non-Governmental Organisations that came together during a meeting in the State in 1992 under the leadership of Dr Sharad Vaidya, who was the National Chairman from 1992 until his death in 2000. Currently it is chaired by Dr Shekhar Salkar.
NOTE has Chapters in seven states, namely Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Goa with headquarters in Goa.
