CURCHOREM: Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) issued show-cause notices to major hotels and restaurants in the market for non-compliance of its order to keep its premises clean.
Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes told Herald that on September 30, CCMC staff and workers along with Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral undertook cleanliness drive and inspected all the hotels in Curchorem, as part of ‘Swachh Bharat, Nitol Goem.’
“The MLA and we were surprised to see unhygienic condition of the hotels and restaurants in market area. As the owners of the restaurants/hotels failed to clean their premises and submit compliance report as directed by CCMC, we issued them show-cause notices and asked them to reply within seven days, failing which their licenses will be revoked,” said Fernandes.
People allege that most of the hotels/restaurants are in unhygienic conditions. “In 90 per cent of the hotels/restaurants, there are no rates displayed nor are they providing menu with rates, but issue bills with total amount without giving description of the items with rate,” said a citizen and added that in most of the hotels, there are no water filters.
When contacted, a hotel owner said they have a menu with rates, but it is shown to the customers only if they ask for it. “We do not have association as such, but the hotel owners meet informally to address the issues and fix the rate of the items,” he said.
When asked how they issue total amount bill without description of items and its rate, he said if customer has any doubt, he can ask for menu and tally the amount.
However, when asked to show the menu, he could not produce it.
When the issue was brought to the notice of Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, he said all the hotels must follow the rules and regulation.
“Government will look into the matter and will take action if any hotel violates any rule,” he said.
