PORVORIM: The State government has issued show cause notices to mining firms for the recovery of Rs 240.92 crore towards illegal mining.
In a written reply submitted in the House, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that 41 show cause notices were issued and the process of recovery is ongoing.
Of the total Rs 240.90 crore, an amount of Rs 79.73 crore has been recovered, Sawant said.
The firms that were served show cause notices include Minescape Minerals Pvt Ltd, VG Quenim, Praful Hede, EMCO Goa Pvt Ltd, VM Salgaocar and Brothers, Chowgule and Comp, Ahiliabai Sardesai, Sociedade Timbo, Vedanta Ltd, Damodar Mangalji, NS Narvekar, Poinginkar, Maria de Lourdes Figueiredo, Sesa Resources, RS Shetye, GN Agarwal, Kunda Gharse, Geetabala Parulekar, among others.
Sawant said that the State had appointed a committee consisting of chartered accountants who had studied the audit reports prepared by the empanelled chartered accountants appointed for carrying out audit of mining leases and based on their summary reports.
Show cause notices were issued to the concerned leaseholders and upon hearing the concerned leaseholder necessary orders for recovery of dues have been passed.
