PANJIM: After extending the monthly dole to truck owners, the State Government has now announced that they would exempt them from road tax due to the closure of mining industries in the state since September 2012.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday announced that he would issue a notification giving road tax waiver to the mining truck owners on Monday, October 21. Truck owners seeking exemption shall be those who have been paying the motor vehicle tax at the rate prescribed for the mining vehicles. Parrikar said that trucks, registered with the Mines department would be granted exemption provided they produce evidence of exclusive use of the vehicle for transportation of mineral ore.
Parrikar was replying to the calling attention motion moved by Congress legislator Atanasio Monserrate. The calling attention, tabled last week, brought to the notice of the House that despite Chief Minister’s assurance, the banks and financial institutions are issuing notices and initiating recovery proceedings against mining loan defaulters.
Monserrate was not present for the reply as Congress had boycotted the session on Wednesday after the Legislative Speaker refused to extend the house sitting.
