MARGAO: Against the backdrop of opposition coming from the people of Chincinim and other places, the Varca and Assolna panchyats have now written to the Captain of Ports (CoP) opposing the desilting work of river Sal that is to start soon.
It may be recalled that earlier the Chinchinim panchayat too had conveyed its objection in a letter to the Cop.
The Assolna Panchayat and Varca panchayat wrote to the CoP in similarly worded letters how permissions had not been obtained from the panchyats, how the villagers have also raised their concerns, who incidentally, along with the concerned ward members had assembled at the site and strongly opposed the project.
They also wrote in detail how the dredging work will cause damage to the ecology of the river.
