PANJIM: Real estate firm Emgee Properties has filed a defamation case against interior designer Sussane Khan for causing the company tremendous loss as a result of her ‘defamatory and derogatory statements’ against the firm in the media.
Mumbai-based counsel, Advocate Ranjit Shetty, representing the firm, confirmed that a defamation suit of Rs 15 crore has been filed against the celebrity.
“… The plaintiff is entitled to recover from the defendant a sum of Rs 15 crore together with interest thereon at 18 per cent per annum from the date of filing the suit till payment and/or realization. The existence of the defamatory publications on website is causing continuous harm, loss and prejudice to the plaintiff,” the petition filed before the Court of Civil Judge, Senior Division, Panjim, states.
The petition further states, “The defendant (Khan) has thus made the defamatory and derogatory remarks which are published in the said publications. The defendant in order to gain cheap publicity and as a counter blast to the criminal complaint, has made false, derogatory and defamatory statements against the complainant. The defamatory publications have been made with an obvious view to malign the company’s reputation,” it states.
Panjim police are investigating a complaint filed by firm’s managing partner Mudhit Gupta alleging that Khan projected herself as an architect and designer, to secure a contract ‘for architectural and designing services’. The company alleged that she failed to execute the project, thus cheating the firm of around Rs 1.87 crore.
Khan, who is the former wife of Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan, had then moved the High Court of Bombay at Goa seeking to quash a First Information Report (FIR) filed against her.
