PONDA: Now on, all the Ponda public meetings will be held at Kranti Maidan instead of Ponda bus stand as the Ponda Municipal Council on Tuesday passed a resolution to this effect.
The PMC meeting, which was chaired by Chairman Vishwanath Dalvi, resolved to once again renovate the Ponda Kranti Maidan after five years. The PMC will give it to hold public meetings and for other multipurpose use with an aim to generate revenue.
In another major resolution, the PMC also passed a resolution to construct its new ground plus two storey building. On the occasion, the councillors and Ponda MLA Ravi Naik was present
Speaking to the media persons, Dalvi said that the council has decided to construct ground plus two storey building in open space located near existing PMC building.
He said, “As per suggestion of Ponda MLA it was also resolved to renovate Kranti Maidan so that it can be used to hold public meetings and for other use to generate revenue. After the renovation, the meetings which used to be held at Indira market bus stand now will be held at Kranti Maidan with immediate effect.”
“The Ponda Market Complex will be put to use soon. The hall at this complex will be given on rent to generate revenue. 44 shops are auctioned. The complex is renovated and repaired. Lift work is progressing and soon will be operational. It was also decided to conduct development work such as development of gardens, walking track, beautification works etc through MPLAD fund in all wards of PMC,” he added.
The issue of beautification also came for discussion in the recently concluded Assembly session.
The Pond MLA said, “The Kranti Maidan was originally owned by PMC. During Portuguese rule, it was handed over to the military. When I was the Chief Minister I was successful in getting back the portion of Kranti Maidan to PMC from the Central government. The PMC has hilly jurisdiction and so getting back remaining major portion of Kranti Maidan to the municipality is important for multipurpose use.”
It may be recalled that the Ponda Kranti Maidan was renovated in 2014 by spending around Rs 3.5 crore
