Now, pay dues at MMC using debit/credit cards

Margao: The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) began accepting debit and credit cards payments from Friday.
According to the Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik, there was a system in place earlier but it had been discontinued for some reason. “We have now procured two mobile smart POS systems. The Municipality does not have to pay anything to the bank for the service,” he informed.
The MMC’s recent revenue recovery drive has resulted in a rush of business owners and traders at MMC to pay their pending trade licence fee.
“Every week at least two cheques used to bounce. It was just not feasible,”
The CO informed Herald. The traders were aggrieved by this since they did not want to waste time standing in a queue at the bank for the DD and then standing in a queue again at the MMC for making the payment.
Jose Marie Miranda approached the CO who informed that he didn’t want to accept cheques as they may bounce. Miranda met the chairperson Babita Angle, who then assured to explore the possibility of procuring POS system to accept digital payments.
