PANJIM: In a bid to ensure safety of school-going children, the State education department has directed schools to ensure that the vehicles ferrying children display the carrying capacity. Director Education Vandana Rao has issued instructions to all the government, government-aided, unaided primary, secondary, higher secondary and special schools.
“As per the directives of the Supreme Court committee on road safety, the carrying capacity of the vehicles ferrying school children should be displayed both inside and outside the vehicle,” she said in the circular.
“All the schools are directed to follow instructions to ensure safety of school-going children,” she added.
Earlier last month, department had asked all the educational institutions to do police verification of drivers and conductors of the vehicles indulged in ferrying the children, to avoid any untoward incidents.
The directions were issued following instructions from the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
The Director had said that MHRD had instructed that the staff may be engaged for ferrying school children only after police verification of their character and antecedents is completed.
Director asked schools to do police verification after every two years to ensure continued safety of students. She said that with the passage of time, a person may be affected by many psycho-socio factors in his immediate or distant environment.
The department has warned of stringent action against the school authorities in case of any violation or lapse with regards to the safety and well being of school children.
