PANJIM: National Students Union of India (NSUI), the students’ wing of Goa Congress has lashed out at the State government for ‘saffronising the education system’. The removal of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru from the history textbooks of Class X, introducing new chapters allegedly linked to Hindu right wing and emergency has raised apprehensions among the students’ wing of the Congress party.
“The Class X history books have no photo of Pt Nehru. There are new chapters of RSS individuals who contributed nothing for the country and the BJP is also trying to include a chapter on Emergency. This is nothing but saffronising the education system,” NSUI State President Ahraz Mulla said on Monday condemning the move of the BJP-led coalition.
Demanding that BJP stop interfering with the future of students, NSUI reiterated that the education system has changed since the BJP-led coalition took over the reins of the State in 2012.
Meanwhile, the issue of rise in dengue cases in South Goa was discussed and NSUI general secretary Simran Malkarnekar demanded compensation for the 11 students who have taken ill and are missing their studies ‘due to negligence of the authorities’.
