Taking serious cognizance of acute water shortage in Bicholim taluka, PWD Minister Churchill Alemao on Tuesday suspended the technical assistant (TA) of the Padoshe water purification plant.
Besides suspending Sambhaji Rane, Alemao also repimanded the workers for negligence in their duty, during his visit to inspect the water problem at the Padoshem Plant.
Residents of Bicholim continued to face acute water shortage on Tuesday. Moreover, most of the wells here have also become dry, causing severe hardship to residents.
Villagers from Bicholim have demanded the immediate suspension of Executive Engineer Kamladini, who they claimed was negligent in his duties.
Meanwhile, the issue of workers working at Padoshe plant was later handled by BJP youth wing, where BJP State Youth President Dr Pramod Sawant along with Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar, Bhagwan Harmalkar, Bhalchandra Narvekar and delegation of four workers visited Principal Chief Engineer Rego and informed him about the state of affairs of the workers.
After giving a hearing to the delegation, Rego assured to look into the matter. Rego assured that the workers will be paid wage arrears from January 2011 along with implementation of ESI, PF and other facilities.
Pale MLA Pratap Gawas was also present at the Padoshe plant who requested Alemao to treat the workers on humanitarian basis.
Meanwhile, about 100 women from Bicholim took out a rally at PWD office Bicholim in protest against scarcity of water and demanded with the officers to release the water as early as possible.
