OL Succour wins talent contest

PANJIM: Dr R G Wiseman Pinto, professor and Head of pathology department, GMC, Bambolim, has been invited as a chairman, faculty and moderator at the 38th European Congress of Cytology at Geneva, Switzerland, to be held from September 27 to 30. The website of the conference is ww.cytologygeneva2014.com. The conference is organised by the European Federation of Cytology Societies and the International Academy of Cytology. Dr Pinto will be the chairman, faculty and moderator for the sessions on cytology of liver, gall bladder, pancreas and gastrointestinal tract, infectious diseases. He will also be the faculty for the slide seminar – unknown cases. He will also represent India at the International Academy of Cytology Business meeting and the EFCS (European Federation of Cytology Societies) business meetings in Geneva. 

PANJIM: Vocation Week will be celebrated in the Archdiocese of Goa from September 21 to 28, with the, ‘May our Vocation, nurtured in the family, help to promote faith, communion and renewal in the society.’ Vocations to priesthood and religious life is highlighted in particular. Seminarians from Rachol seminary, Pilar, Niwas-Duler, Mapusa and Saligao seminary will go to other parishes to share about their vocation and organize programme. Vocation Commission for the Diocesan Clergy (VCDC) is organizing  deanery vocation Sunday in Quepem Deanery for  South-Goa and for North Goa in St Anthony’s Church, Siolim  on September 21. On September 27, parable acting contest will be organized for schools around Saligao seminary in the seminary hall from 9.30 am.

BICHOLIM: About 300 people including businessmen from Bicholim marched to the Bicholim police station, demanding action against a micro finance company after accusing it of duping them to the tune of Rs 2.5 crore. According to sources, the incident occurred in the evening when about 300 people found that the company office at Bicholim was locked. The people used to invest in the company on a daily basis over the last four to five years. The people then marched to the police station at Bicholim. When contacted, Bicholim Police told Herald that a complaint had been filed with the EOC section in Panjim. Goa police is investigating the case.

PANJIM: Hindi Day was celebrated in regional office, ESI Corporation, on September 17. Khageshwar Prasad Yadav, Hindi officer, AIR, Panjim was the chief guest. Dr Shubhangi Lotlikar, Administrative Medical Officer, ESI Scheme was also present. Yadav said that it is the duty of all to strive to achieve the goals set by the department of official language, Ministry of Home Affair. CV Joseph, Regional Director said that the official language policy is being implemented effectively in the Goa ESIC, regional office. 

PANJIM: A meeting with hotel/guest house owners & representative was held on September 18, to discuss security concerns. The meeting was held at GOs conference hall for hoteliers from Calangute, Saligao, Candolim, Nerul, Porvorim, Betim, etc. 220 representatives of  145 hotels were present for the briefing. Senior police officers including Karthik Kashyap, SP CID Crime, Vaman  Tari, SP  CID  Security and Umesh Y Gaonkar, SP SB/ATS Security were present at the meet. A power point presentation concerning hotel security prepared by Priyanka Kashyap, SP, (North), was presented, covering issues such as guard, access control, anti sabotage, documentation of guests, human resources, security measures and crisis management. Other issues discussed were terrorism, kidnapping, robbery by organized gangs, opportunist robbery, burglary from rooms, baggage theft, fraud, invasion of guest privacy, interest groups, black mail, disputes between guests of staff, natural disaster. 

PANJIM: Art of Living happiness programme will be held in Vaze hall, above Navtara hotel, Mapusa from September 23 to 28, between 5.30 am to 8 am. Sudarshan kriya, pranayam, meditation, yoga will be taught at the programme. Those above 19 years can register. For registration contact Ganesh Zantye.

PANJIM: Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim, as part of its silver jubilee celebrations, is organizing a programme on time management, team work, supply chain management and accuracy, conducted by Ragunath Medge (President) and Arvind Talekar (President) of Mumbai Dabbawala Association on October 1, from 4 pm to 5.30 pm in the Gomantak Vidya Niketan auditorium in Margao. PANJIM: Goa YMCA, Panjim, has organised a monsoon trek to Pal waterfall at Valpoi September 27. The trekkers will leave from Goa YMCA Campal Panjim by special bus at 8 am. Those interested may contact YMCA International Goa, next to Methodist Church, behind Campal parade ground for details and payment of participation fee. Last date for registration is September 22.
