MARGAO: Taking cognisance of a Herald report on the pathetic conditions in the office of the Administrator of Comunidades, South Goa, Collector Swapnil Naik has decided to allot a better space for the staff in the old district collectorate building in Margao.
“The office and the staff will be soon shifted to the old collectorate building in Margao, which has a 125 sq mts of carpet area,” Collector Swapnil Naik informed.
Herald in its Margao Page (June 8 edition) had highlighted the sorry state of affairs at the comunidade building.
Herald in its report had exposed the conditions at the comunidade building such as leaking roofs, which caused the water to seep through, no repair works being undertaken and staff being forced to use rainwear and umbrellas inside the building which was declared “unsafe”.
“The land belongs to the South Comunidade but the building has been constructed by the government and hence there is a dispute between the government and comunidade on the payment of rent from the private institutions operating at the premises,” he informed.
“Both the government and comunidade differ on whether or not the rent can be used to repair the building,” Naik said, adding “The building is very old and leaking. It has been reported that the employees have sat with umbrellas and worked in the office and this year, rains have soaked some files in the comunidade building”.
The Collector further informed that there are around 20 employees in the comunidade office and they will be shifted to the old district collectorate building in Margao.
It may be recalled that following the commissioning of the new collectorate complex, all offices from Margao were shifted there.
