SANGUEM: A huge and old tree in the Government Primary School campus at Sanguem which also houses the office of the Assistant Director of Education Inspector (ADEI) is leaning towards the compound wall and there are possibilities of the tree falling collapsing and causing loss of property and human lives.
The tree was reportedly planted when the school was constructed. It has now become big and unsafe. Since the time the tree was planted, it has not been pruned; as a result, its branches have spread on all four sides and some are leaning on the compound wall.
Locals fear that if the tree is not cut or at least some of the branches are not cut, the tree could collapse time. Due to this, the students are facing the risk of getting crushed under the tree.
Ravindra Naik, a local, informed that during the free time, school students play around the tree wherein there also exists the platform where the school holds cultural programmes. While on the other side of the compound wall, locals park their four wheelers.
In the event of the tree falling down, it would not only cause substantial damage to the school compound wall but there are also possibilities of the vehicles parked on the other side of the compound wall being damaged. Besides, if the tree falls during the school hours, the students who play in the surrounding could suffer injuries.
