Congress leader and former Cortalim candidate Olencio Simões has strongly criticized Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar’s justification of the 4% annual electricity tariff hike in Goa. Simões argued that a cumulative 20% increase over five years is unacceptable, especially in the context of Goa’s 6.34% inflation rate, one of the highest in India.
Highlighting issues faced by residents, Simões pointed to frequent power cuts, damaged electrical appliances due to voltage fluctuations, and deteriorating infrastructure in Cortalim. He demanded the immediate withdrawal of the tariff hike, urgent upgrades to the Verna Sub-Station, and increased investment in renewable energy sources.
“Goans deserve affordable, reliable power—not annual shocks disguised as reforms,” Simões said, describing the government’s move as disconnected from on-ground realities.
