MARGAO: In a major relief to the Margao Municipal Council (MMC), chairperson Damodar Shirodkar stated that the civic body will get back the Rs 2.73 crore they had to deposit with the High Court (HC), after a road that was subject to legal dispute, is constructed in Colmorod, Navelim.

‘E; at Colmorod, which is in MMC’s jurisdiction, within two months, and to take necessary action to comply to the directions in the order.
Speaking to media persons, Shirodkar explained that in connection with the ongoing petition in the court regarding the road, the final order was more or less in favour of the Council.
Shirodkar said that it was a team effort and thanked all those who were involved and Adv Parag Rao who had argued for the civic body before the HC. He added that the petitioner had sought to stay the HC’s directions but the same appeal was rejected by the court.
Shirodkar explained that while the order was issued on Friday, they had not received the copy until recently, following which an inspection was conducted at the area in Colmorod with the municipal staff.
He said that the Margao MLA was also present for the
inspection where the measurements of the road to be constructed were done and the technical section prepared the estimated costs.
The chairperson said, “As per the HC’s directions, once we complete the tarring of the road, we will get the Rs 2.73 deposit back, which is a huge relief to the council, as we are facing financial constraints.”
The MMC Chief Officer informed that the work would be tendered so that all legal formalities are followed and once the work is completed, the civic body would file an affidavit in court.
