The first day of filing nominations for Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) elections saw only one candidate filing nomination before the returning officer at Sanguem.
The only candidate to file nomination on Monday was Shaikh Imtiaz from Ward 6 which, is presently held by former SMC chairperson Zarina Bi Shaikh.
Incidentally, Imtiaz who had contested in the last municipal elections from Ward 5, was defeated by Suryadatt Naik by a meagre three votes.
Imtiaz had commenced his campaign since the last over 15 days and has been working tirelessly to contact his voters by making door-to-door visits.
Imtiaz also has an added advantage of being known by his voters, as he runs the only cable business in the town.
When contacted, Imtiaz claimed to have full support from his voters and will definitely emerge victorious.
Mayem correspondent adds: One candidate has filed nomination papers for the Bicholim Municipal Council elections.
Manasi Manohar Shirodkar filed her nomination from Ward 10, which is reserved for women (OBC) at Bicholim deputy collector’s office on Monday.
