MARGAO: The Margao Police on Thursday arrested a 23-year-old youth from Shiroda for allegedly raping a minor girl after kidnapping her and extorting gold ornaments valued at Rs12.22 lakh from her. Police gave the name of the accused as Francisco Barreto.
According to the police, the accused took the victim at two different locations in South Goa District on the pretext of marrying her and on first occasion outraged her modesty and then allegedly raped her by giving her dire consequences.
Victim’s mother in her complaint stated that the accused befriended with her daughter and allegedly kidnapped her from lawful guardianship of her parents and took her to Quepem in a car and outraged her modesty.
“After few days, he again took her to Khola Beach in Canacona under threat to expose her nude photographs and under the false promise of marrying her in future. There, the accused had sexual inter-course with the victim and thereby committed rape,” the complainant said.
As per complaint, the accused under the threat of exposing the minor’s nude photographs asked her to expose herself on video calls and thereby outraged her modesty. The police have registered a case against Francisco Barreto under Sections 363,354 (A) 354 (D), 376, 506 (II), 384 and 420 of IPC and under Section 4 and 12 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) of 2012.
The accused was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Margao on Thursday and was remanded in four days police custody. PSI Varshada Naik Dessai is conducting investigations.
