Old Goa Police on Friday arrested one person in connection with a chain-snatching case at Belavista-Corlim.
According to Old Goa Police Inspector Francis Corte, accused Michael Fernandes along with another person had recently snatched a gold chain snatching from a woman at Corlim.
The woman was on her way to attend mass at St Joao Facundo Church in Corlim.
“We have been able to solve the case with the arrest of Michael, who confessed that he along with another person committed the crime and later sold the chain to one person from St Cruz, which has been recovered by Old Goa Police officials,” informed PI Corte.
Old Goa Police has brought Michael on a transfer warrant from the judicial custody and now have been arrested under Sections 356, 379.
PI Corte expressed hope that they would be able to nab the other accused, who is still absconding.
It may be noted that Michael is the main accused in about 30 cases of dacoity, robbery, vehicle thefts, impersonation and chain snatching in the State and neighbouring states and was recently arrested by Calangute Police.
Police sources had also claimed that Fernandes was the key accused in recent cases of robbery, including fleecing tourists at gun point.
During interrogation, Fernandes had confessed that he was offered ‘supari’ (contract killing) to do away with Home Minister Ravi Naik’s son Roy, after which Goa Police had beefed up security cover to the home minister and his family after claiming of having received inputs of a specific threat to their lives.
