PONDA: With the rise in incidents of traffic congestion on Khandepar road and on the old bridge there, due to minor accidents on the National Highway, there is a growing demand among the villagers for opening the new bridge, early.
Responding to the demand of the villagers, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar, speaking to reporters at a function at Ponda, said that the bridge is nearing completion, but its inauguration is delayed due to some technical reasons. “However, it will be inaugurated in a couple of months by Union Minister for Road and Shipping Nitin Gadakari,” he said.
The minister expects that the works would be completed by December and the bridge would be inaugurated either in the first or last week of December.
Meanwhile, he appealed to the drivers not to take the risk of driving over the new bridge before it is officially inaugurated.
