MARGAO: Stating that the hardships faced by the people are unbearable, citizens of Seraulim demanded to complete and open the railway underpass road at the earliest.
Residents complained that the increase in the trains has further added to their hardships as the railway gate at the crossing makes the commuters wait for several minutes under the hot sun. This railway crossing has put the people’s life in slow motion.
It is pertinent to note that the work of the underpass is worth Rs 7 crore approximately and was to be done on 50-50 contribution by the State Government and Railways. Earlier it was expected to be completed by May 2021, where the ten MLA of Benaulim Churchill Alemao too inspected the site on many occasions in order to resolve the issue.
However, presently residents demanded the ongoing works be completed at the earliest so that people do not suffer any more.
“People were demanding to construct this railway underpass for a long time now and we can witness that the work is almost completed and hence our request to the authorities is to open it immediatly,” said Benjamin Fernandes, a local resident.
He informed that people had to go through a lot of hardships at the railway crossing near the Seraulim church.
“The increasing number of trains has further added to the pain of the people as they have to wait for nearly 15 minutes under the hot sun on both sides to cross the railway road,” he stated.
But he is of the opinion that in the monsoon it will be of no use as water logging will be witnessed inside the underpass.
