PANJIM: Ahead of winter session, Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar will chair the crucial Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of State Legislative Assembly.

A four-day session of the legislative Assembly will be held from January 16 to 19. The session will begin with address by Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai.

The Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Sunday said he will write to Speaker seeking a day-long discussion on Mhadei water diversion issue during the upcoming session.

Alemao said he will also demand that a Private Members’ Business day be held on Friday, as the session culminates on Thursday.

At least seven calling attention motions should be taken from the Opposition benches during the session, he said.

Reacting to this, Speaker said that if a proposal comes from the MLAs through a proper channel, requesting for discussion on Mhadei, then the same would be considered.

“It’s a long pending issue that has reached the peak now. The government has made its stand on it very clear. It is a matter that concerns each and every one. If MLAs want and a proposal comes, I will consider it and allow special discussion on Mhadei,” Tawadkar said.

He said that all the 40 MLAs are committed to protect the interest of the State. “As a Speaker, I act as a neutral person and hence open for constructive suggestions by the opposition on genuine apolitical issues. I can even raise them before the Government,” he said.
