MARGAO: Opposition Margao Municipal councilors on Wednesday lashed out at MMC Chairperson Arthur D’Silva over the pre-monsoon works, saying in many wards work has not started.
Addressing the media, Councillor Avinash Shirodkar demanded that the Chairperson should withdraw his statement that 90 per cent of the town has been covered for the pre-monsoon works. “Let the Chairperson inspect my ward, especially the flood prone low-lying Rawanfond area, and he will find for himself. Arthur should stop misguiding the people of Margao,” Shirodkar said.
His colleague Councillor Damu Shirodkar said that pre-monsoon works have not started in many areas and questioned the propriety of the Chairperson in making a statement that 90 per cent of the pre-monsoon works stand completed.
Councilor Sangeeta Naik pointed out that many a citizen had to return home disappointed on Tuesday and Wednesday following the absence of both the Chairperson Arthur and Chief Officer Deepali Naik, who are attending a specialised training program in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Arthur said that wards which have not been taken up for pre-monsoon works, will be covered as per the schedule. “I had made the statement that 90 per cent of the pre-monsoon works stand completed based on the information furnished by the technical section. If some wards are still left out, the work will take place on a war-footing,” he said.
