Organisers directed to stop exhibition at BPS grounds

The Margao Municipal Council on Tuesday directed the organisers of an exhibition-cum-sale at the BPS grounds to stop the activity by 4 this evening.
As per the Municipal direction, the organizers put up board on the entrance gate to the BPS grounds that the exhibition has been closed for the day due to some problem. A large number of customers – who throng the exhibitions cum sales at the BPS club – had to return home disappointed without shopping in view of the development.
Trouble began for the organizers this morning when the New Market traders Association gheraoed Chairperson Savio Coutinho and Chief Officer Y B Tawde in protest against the holding of the exhibition for the last two days without permission.
Led by Association President Vinod Shirodkar, the traders pointed out that the exhibition had commenced two days ago, when the Municipality has given them permission to hold the exhibition for five days, beginning from Tuesday.
The traders alleged that the City Fathers has turned a blind eye to the exhibition held for two days without permission due to some consideration.
Accepting the contention of the traders, the Council issued a notice to the organizers saying they had applied for the NOC for conducting the exhibition from July 27-31, but pointed out that the organizers started the activities before the day permission was sought to hold the sale.
IN the notice, the Chief Officer referred to the Council resolution No 3636 permitting exhibition cum sale for a maximum period of five days in a month.
The new market traders led by Shirodkar also visited the venue of the exhibition to ascertain whether the Civic body’s notice has been implemented or not. The traders warned that they will be forced to take the law in their hands if the organisers go ahead with the activity despite the Municipal directions.
