Orlim sets up panel to prepare CZMP

MARGAO: The Orlim gram sabha on Sunday set up a committee to prepare the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) for the village and adopted a resolution to conserve and use all the water bodies in the village by de-silting them.
Rejecting the draft CZMP prepared by the Chennai-based National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM), the villagers asserted that such a plan has to be prepared by the locals who are well versed with what is happening at loco.
Hence, the villagers constituted a committee led by  Donato D’Costa to prepare the CZMP after consulting all the affected people.
Responding to the circular issued by the Block Development Officer, the gram sabha resolved that all the water bodies in the village should be de-silted. They also asked that the sluice gates that were existing earlier be rebuilt so as to hold water in the ponds.
Rebuilding the sluice gates will not only hold the water for a longer period, but will also improve the water table, besides allowing fish to breed which can then be consumed by the villagers.
The gram sabha was attended by around 35 villagers including five of the seven panchas.
also asked Sarpanch Tamica D’Silva to undertake a survey of the people registered under Below Poverty Line and to delete the names of those who are no longer coming within this category.
