‘Outstanding bills will be cleared before Chaturthi’

PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has announced that his government would clear outstanding bills of Rs 70 crore pertaining to various works before Ganesh Chaturthi.

“Before Chaturthi, all bills where there had been no complaints about works carried out, will be cleared. There are Rs 70 crore outstanding bills. But if the work is not executed properly, the executive engineer concerned will not clear the bill,” he told the House.
Replying to Independent MLA Naresh Sawal’s allegations that some contractors have complained of non-payment of bills despite completing the assigned work, Parrikar challenged him to disclose their names. “Give me the names. I challenge, I will get the ‘kundali’ of that contractor in seven days,” he said adding that such complaints come only because there is scam involved in it.
“I am not responsible for non-clearance of bills where there is scam. If work is not done properly, the contractor will not be paid,” Parrikar said.
