Palyekar sets Dec 2019 as deadline for Tillari project

PANJIM: Water Resources Minister (WRD) Vinod Palyekar on Monday set December 2019 as the deadline for the final completion of the Tillari irrigation project.
Palyekar met with WRD Chief Engineer Nadkarni directing him to fast track the pending project.
“This is a joint venture between Maharashtra and Goa. Today I had a meeting with Chief Engineer Nadkarni and have given a deadline of December 2019 for its completion,” Palyekar said.
He added, “80 percent of the work is completed and 10kms stretch is pending to be completed. This project is monitored by the Prime Minister’s office. We have got all the required funds from the centre.” 
Initiated in 1988, the project’s cost has shot up from the initial Rs 217 crore to Rs 1,600 crore. Although the main dam has been completed in Maharashtra, work on the canal network.
, a majority of which lies in Goa, is still under progress.
Meanwhile, the Goa government recently sent a fresh proposal for an amount of Rs 400 crore to the Central government for the project which has been all cleared.
