Nuvem Zilla Panchayat member Wilfred D’Sa’s wife Frida has made it to the village Panchayat of Nuvem by defeating her rival Vinod Verlekar by a margin of 244 votes.
In the elections held for Ward No IV left vacant after the election of Wilfred as the ZP member, Frida polled 340 votes, Vinod had to be content with only 96 votes.
After her victory, Frida profusely thanked the voters and the supporters and promised to work hard as per the expectations of the people.
In Curtorim, Luiza Pais was elected Panch member of Ward No II in a triangular contest. While Luiza Pais polled 401 votes, her rivals Winee Dias and Sarita Dias polled 170 and 58 votes respectively. Elections for Ward No II were necessitated after Veena Lourenco was elected the Curtorim ZP member.
Luiza has promised to take up all round development of the village.
As far as ward No II of Chinchinim Panchayat is concerned, Constancio Fernandes emerged winner in a five-cornered contest. Constancio polled 290 votes, while Valentino Barretto (153), Philip Menzes (54), Alina Dias (46) and Rajesh Coutinho (22) votes.
The seat was left vacant following the election of then panch member, Sabrina Dias to the Zilla Panchayat.
After his victory, Constancio said he would take personal interest to ensure that a number of development proposals pending in the Panchayat are implemented at the earliest.
“People were looking for a change in the Panchayat. My aim was to poll more than 50 per cent of the vote, which I achieved without much difficulty”, he said, promising to implement host of proposals for the benefit of the village.
Porvorim correspondent adds: Amita Vasudev Korgaonkar, Rajesh Ganpat Temkar and Raju R Banaulikar were declared elected from Ward 3 (Verla-Canca Panchayat), Ward 7 (Revora Panchayat) and Ward 4 (Oxel Panchayat), respectively.
Polling in three wards took place on August 29 and the counting was taken up on Monday morning.
After declaring the results at about 10.30 am, Bardez Mamlatdar Gaurish Shankhwalker handed over the letters of certification to the elected panch members.
Amita Vasudev Korgaonkar secured 310 votes of the 453 votes polled in Ward 3 of Verla-Canca Panchayat, while Atmaram Bhagat secured 43, Ratikant Korgaonkar (50) and Umakant Korgaonkar (43). Seven votes were rejected.
In Ward 7 of Revora Panchayat, Rajesh Ganpat Temkar secured 177 votes of the 318 votes polled. Two other candidates in the fray Dinesh Ganpat Temkar and Rajaram Mandrekar got 7 and 126 votes respectively. Eight votes were rejected.
Raju Banaulikar won the election in Ward 4 of Oxel Panchyat defeating his nearest rival Gokudas Bhikaji Dhargalker by a slim margin of 4 votes.
Raju Banaulikar polled 135 votes, while Gokuldas Dhargalkar secured 131 votes. The other two candidates in the fray Madhukar Bhikaji Dhargalkar and Srikant M Dhargalkar got 82 and 39 votes respectively. Two votes were rejected.
Marcel correspondent adds: It was a draw of lots that ensured the success of Suresh Naik in the by-polls of Ward 2 of Tiverem-Orgao panchayat, while Chedo Gaude got elected in the by-polls of Ward 3 in Veling-Priol-Cuncolim panchayat.
Bye-elections to the two seats were conducted on Sunday after panch Gokuldas Naik from Tiverem Orgao Panchayat resigned after he was elected to North Goa Zilla Panchayat (ZP) from Tiverem seat, while Shivdas Gaude of Ward 3 from Veling-Priol-Cuncolim Panchayat got elected from Veling ZP seat.
The counting of votes was taken up on Monday. Suresh Naik was lucky as he was declared elected after Returning Officer Gourish Kurtikar decided to hold a draw of lots, after Suresh Naik and Yuvraj Naik secured the same votes (170). Third candidate Jayesh Naik polled 31 votes, six votes were rejected.
In Veling-Priol-Cuncolim, Chedo Gaude secured 173 votes and his nearest opponent Dasu Gaude polled 136 votes. Other two candidates Mangaldas Gaude secured 89 votes, while Mukundas Khedekar secured 59 votes.
Suresh Naik’s supporters heaved a huge sigh of relief after the draw of lots went in favour of Suresh. Naik was greeted by his supporters outside the district administration building with colours and flowers.
Naik dedicated his win to his supporters and Priol MLA Deepak Dhavlikar. “I am thankful to voters for having faith in me. I am also thankful to Priol MLA Deepak Dhavlikar for supporting me.”
“This is the third election I have contested and won for the first time only because of my supporters. Since I was the favourite candidate, my opponents used money power and had almost succeeded. But with divine blessings, I made it,” claimed Suresh Naik.
Interestingly, all the three candidates are learnt to be the supporters of Priol MLA Deepak Dhavlikar.
Chedo Gaude too dedicated his win to Priol MLA Deepak Dhavlikar, besides North Goa ZP member and voters from Ward No 3 of Veling-Priol-Cuncolim.
The Tiverem-Orgao Panchayat’s Ward No 2 had recorded 81.60 per cent voting, while Ward No 3 Veling-Priol-Cuncolim recorded 59 per cent voting.
In Tiverem-Orgao Panchayat, a total of 372 out of 462 votes were polled, while in Veling-Priol-Cuncolim, 463 votes were polled out of 780.
