PANJIM: As many as eight nominations were filed on Tuesday, June 11, for the panchayat by-elections to be held in the State on June 23.
According to the State Election Commission (SEC), one nomination was filed for ward number 10 (Reserved for SC) of Socorro panchayat, one nomination was filed for ward number II of Cudenem panchayat, one nomination was filed for ward number II (reserved for OBC candidates) of Xeldem panchayat, two nominations were filed for ward number VII (reserved for women) of Cundaim panchayat, two nominations were filed for ward number XI of Borim panchayat and one nomination was filed for BenaulimZilla Panchayat constituency. BenaulimZilla Panchayat Bypoll is reserved for other backward class (OBC) candidates.
With the nominations filed on Tuesday, June 11, the number of nominations filed for the by-elections so far has gone up to 22.
The process of filing nomination papers started on June 5. However, no nominations were filed on that day. Two nominations were filed on June 6, two nominations on June 7, three nominations on June 8 and seven nominations on June 10.
The last date to file nomination papers is June 12 from 10 am to 1 pm. The scrutiny of nominations will be held on June 13 from 10 am onwards till it is completed, while withdrawals will be allowed on June 14 from 10 am to 2 pm.
The polling will be held on June 23 from 8 am to 5 pm. The voting will be held by using ballot papers, according to the SEC.
