Panchayats to get garbage collection fund

MAPUSA: Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho has announced that panchayats will get revived garbage collection fund from next financial year and said panchayats are being divided in three different categories for the allocation of funds.

MAPUSA: Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho has announced that panchayats will get revived garbage collection fund from next financial year and said panchayats are being divided in three different categories for the allocation of funds.
He made the statement during his visit to Saligao garbage treatment plant along with officials of Goa waste management and sarpanchaa and panch members of Sancoale, Bogmalo and Chicalim.
The Panchayat Minister informed that all panchayats are divided into three categories. The small panchayats will received a minimum fund of Rs 5 lakh, panchayat within township generating huge garbage will receive Rs 7 lakh and panchayats under no-fly zones will receive Rs 10 lakhs to tackle the garbage problem.
Godinho added that government is planning to impose fines on people who litter garbage in open space and if required certain changes would be made in the law.
