Panel formed for women empowerment

PANJIM: In a bid to give a fillip to women's empowerment, Goa government has constituted a State Mission Authority headed by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for social and economic upliftment of women, in the State.

PANJIM: In a bid to give a fillip to women’s empowerment, Goa government has constituted a State Mission Authority headed by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for social and economic upliftment of women, in the State.
The 14-member SMA has been constituted in tune with the Centre’s National Mission for Empowerment of Women under which the National Mission Authority was constituted and headed by the Prime Minister.
This committee has been formed to secure convergence of schemes/programmes of both Central and State government schemes and review legislation affecting women and its implementation. 
The Mission would keep an eye on and review gender budgeting by the government for effective implementation of social laws concerning women, officials said. 
The authority will include the minister of health, civil supplies, social welfare, women and child development, Labour and rural development, forest, chairman of State planning Board, Law Commission, Goa State Commission for Women and three women representatives from civil society as members. 
Secretary Women and Child Development is the special invitee. 
The term of the State Mission Authority which will meet at least once in six months, will be up to 2016.
