A committee consisting of top officials is likely to be formed in the next few days to look into the matter pertaining to the alleged forgery of birth certificate by Congress MLA Dayanand Narvekar to enable his son to play cricket at tournaments of under-15 level.
Reliable sources said it was learnt that the three members on the committee would be the directors from three departments pertaining to education namely Director of Education, Technical Education and Higher Education. Education Secretary Ashok Acharya said he received a note from the Education Minister Babush Monserrate on Wednesday pertaining to the matter. “I really don’t know who would be in the committee, but, yes, there is a mention of a committee in the note pertaining to the forgery matter.”
It is not known what will the nature of this committee be – whether it will be investigative or what. A message on the Education Minister’s cell to pick up this reporter’s call to confirm the exact facts on the committee yielded no results.
Life member of Goa Cricket Association, Dr Shekhar Salkar had filed a police complaint against Narvekar, who is the current president of the association, for forging his son’s birth certificate on more than two occasions to enable his son to play in state-level under-15 tournaments.
Dr Salkar had sought the information pertaining to the alleged forgery under the RTI Act. Narvekar has denied the allegation and maintained the FIR was a political move against him.
