Panel on foreign trip to study waste management projects

PANJIM: The State government, working on two identified waste management sites - one at Calangute and other at Kakoda, Curchorem- for solid waste management plants, will send a Committee to Europe to study projects, even as it moves forward on permissions.

PANJIM: The State government, working on two identified waste management sites – one at Calangute and other at Kakoda, Curchorem- for solid waste management plants, will send a Committee to Europe to study projects, even as it moves forward on permissions. 
However, officials say that the technology to be adopted will be similar to the one adopted by the Corporation of the City of Panaji for Bainguinim site.
However, even though the process is on and the Environment Impact Assessment tender is to be opened in October, the Saligao comunidade has conveyed its opposition to proposal. However, NOC from Town and Country Planning has been received for the land acquisition at Calangute.
Meanwhile, the collection of non biodegradable solid waste is being done by the contractor appointed by the GSIDC with waste also being received from some South Goa panchayats.
The government has also decided to appoint a contractor for transportation of the collected waste from schools to the storage sheds even as GSIDC is presently carrying out collection of non-biodegradable waste from the National Highways.
94 schools and educational institutions have been supplied with a set of four colored trolley bins and remaining schools will be provided with these in the second phase.
