MARGAO: Two-time councillor Dayanand Deulkar took over the reigns of Margao Municipal Council on Friday, promising to tone up revenue recoveries and ensure cleanliness of the city.
Moments after he was declared elected unopposed by Presiding Officer Y B Tawde, Deulkar said he would accord priority for recoveries of outstanding revenue running to the tune of over Rs 5-6 crore by setting up a recovery cell. “Unless we streamline the revenue recovery system, the civic body will be faced with the problem of funds, which will in turn hamper development,” he said, while promising to tone up the administration and make it people-friendly.
He said the 12-member group of Councillors have come together to usher in development of the Margao, irrespective of political affiliations. Deulkar said the Council will approach the Chief Minister and the Urban Development Minister for assistance to take up parking lots and implementation of signature projects.
On the controversial e-tenders, he said those works which have been duplicated will be revised and re-tendered.
Replying to a question, he said that the 12-member group has worked out an agreement wherein the post of Chairperson will be rotated amongst three persons. “There are just two years and a month to go for the current term to expire. I will quit office as per the agreement. I will maintain my word,” he added.
