Panel: Remove traffic bottlenecks at Nuvem

The South Goa Traffic Regulatory Committee has called for removing traffic bottlenecks at Nuvem and to complete the Old Market Circle-Damodar College ring road at the earliest.
The meeting chaired by District Magistrate, G P Naik deliberated on the traffic scenario in South Goa district and mooted a slew of measures for streamlining traffic at perennial bottlenecks.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, the district magistrate said that superintendent of police, traffic has underlined the need to improve the traffic scenario along the NH-17 at Nuvem. In this respect, Naik said that work on the Majorda bypass would be completed on a priority basis to give relief for traffic heading to Margao from Nuvem.
He said the meeting has issued directions to the authorities to remove the poles coming within the road widening area.
“There are reports that electric and telephone poles continue to remain at the same place despite widening of the roads. Strict instructions will go to the concerned authorities to lift away these obstructions”, he added.
Naik further said that instructions have been issued to the PWD to erect rumblers within two months from the date of notification. Besides, he said the PWD has been told to undertaken painting of the rumblers every year after the monsoons.
Replying to a question, the Sub-Divisional Magistrates will initiate proceedings under Section 133 of the Cr P C wherever required to implement the decisions.
On the ring road, Naik said that the PWD has been told to complete the ring road between Old Market Circle to Damodar College on a priority basis. He said the PWD, Division VI has been asked to prepare a rehabilitation plan for people likely to be displaced by the road work.
