PANJIM: The Expert Committee constituted under former Law Secretary Pramod Kamat to overhaul the four-decade old Goa Board Act 1975 will take at least another six months to submit its report, which will speak about new clauses to control, manage and direct high school education in Goa.
The Goa, Daman and Diu Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board Act, 1975 was introduced in May 27, 1975. The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) was established accordingly and subsequently began the process of conducting examinations for Class X and Class XII. The first amendment to the Act was undertaken in 1980.
Speaking to Herald, GBSHSE chairman Ramakrishna Samant said that the committee work is little slow and will take another six months to complete.
Board has constituted a six-member committee to suggest amendment to the Act headed by former law secretary Pramod Kamat. The other members of the committee include former director education Dr Celsa Pinto, former GBSHSE J R Rebello, chairperson of Sanjay School Guruprasad Pawaskar, educationist Dr Nandkumar Kamat and OSD (legal) Education Department Dayanand Chawdikar.
Samant said government has decided to amend the entire Act as many of its clauses now stands outdated. “We need to draft an Act as per the requirement of the existing education system. Holistic growth of education system is the focus,” he explained.
He said, “Lots of changes have come into the current education system and we need to have a proper Act in place in sync with those changes.”
