They held a meeting with local MLA Digambar Kamat and Education Department officials on Thursday to discuss the same.
“As per a new directive, the students were asked to produce their Aadhaar card to the school. Those who did not have it were asked to produce the same in four days. It is not possible for them to get the card in such a short period,” said Kamat.
He pointed out that only one centre in Margao provided the Aadhaar forms and it would take a month to complete the formalities and get the identification document.
“I spoke to the Director of Education, Bhat, and the Director of Statistics, Sherkhane, and requested relaxation of the rules to allow parents to complete the paperwork and get the Aadhaar cards,” added Kamat.
The Education Department officials agreed to be lenient to the parents regarding the submission of these forms.
The Aadhaar card is linked to the student admission registration number to help track the child in the education system. Linking of the Unique Identification (UID) with the student’s database will help the government verify whether the student is enrolled in a school or not.
