Panjim cop killed in Ribandar mishap

OLD GOA: In a tragic mishap, Police Constable Gaurish Tukaram Gaonkar, attached to Panjim police station, died after his two-wheeler was involved in a head-on collision with a rickshaw near Hoble’s wine shop, along the Panjim to Ribandar Patto road, on Thursday morning.

According to Old Goa police, Gaonkar, a resident of Hivrem, Thande-Sattari, was proceeding on his motorcycle (GA-01-T-8906) from Panjim to Old Goa, while the accused Mahabubli Mulla, a resident of Katebhat-Old Goa, was proceeding on his rickshaw (GA-04-D-2417) from Old Goa to Panjim, when both collided with each other while the rickshaw was overtaking another vehicle.
The injured constable Gaonkar was rushed to GMC Hospital, but breathed his last along the way. The police informed that his body was later handed over to the relatives.
Accused Mulla was arrested under Sections 279, 304A of IPC and is currently lodged at the Ribandar lock-up. PI Sagun Sawant is investigating the case.
