Panjim police fail to file theft complaint

PANJIM: Not only is the general public irked over the non registration of FIR on their complaints, but the Goa police’s own kin are victims of the lethargic attitude of the department. In the latest instance, the Panjim police have not registered an FIR in a theft case reported by the mother of one of its own police sub inspectors.

PSI Diego Gracias’ mother Maria, had filed a theft complaint with the Panjim police, but they are yet to act on it. The thieves stole foreign currency, equivalent to Rs 1.49 lakh.
The complainant has accused one electrician and his helper of stealing 580 Pounds Sterling, which were kept beneath the mattress.
“On March 21, electrician Cyril along with the helper appeared at my house to fit an air conditioner. He fitted wires in one room that day. Next day, they again came to my place to do the wiring in my bedroom where the money was kept,” Maria stated in her complaint.
“While drilling a hole in the wall Cyril told me to go to outside the room. Accordingly I did so for about 15 minutes. After finishing the work, they left,” she further narrated, adding that when she checked the cash underneath the mattress, she found the currency missing. She thereafter filed a complaint with the local police station suspecting the involvement of both the electrician and his helper. However, a case is yet to be registered.
A senior Panjim police officer denying lethargy, claimed they are conducting a preliminary inquiry into the case. The PSI’s mother informed that her other son works abroad.
