Parents consent mandatory for vaccination of children

PANJIM: The Directorate of Education has made consent of parents mandatory for administering COVID vaccine-Corbevax to the children in the age group of 12-14 years.

As a part of nationwide drive, the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) on Wednesday commenced immunizing children in the age of 12-14 years. On day one, total 761 children were administered with first dose. 

The Education Department in a circular issued to all schools has said that as the beneficiaries in the said age group is mostly from Class VI to VIII, the vaccination will be held in the premises of the respective high schools.

Children will be given two doses of vaccine intramuscularly with a gap of 28 days. 

The schools are asked to obtain consent from the parents of eligible students for vaccinating with Corbevax vaccine only.

Schools are directed to provide space for vaccination with provision for well ventilated three rooms as per the protocol of Government of India, so that the vaccination is conducted by adhering to Covid appropriate behaviour.

Also to depute necessary staff like two teachers, clerical staff and a peon to assist vaccination team in consultation with health officer of nearby health centre.

There are nearly 50,000 eligible children for Corbevax vaccine.
