Parents threaten to sue schools for hiking fees

With the Directorate of Education dragging its feet to crack a whip against unaided schools, the All Goa Unaided Schools Parents Association have decided to knock the doors of the judiciary against the arbitrary fee hike by the school managements.
At a meeting held at B M Hall here on Saturday evening, the Association disclosed plans to soon file a Public Interest Litigation in the Bombay High Court at Goa.
Parents lamented that the Education department has not acted on the complaints lodged against the school managements for hiking the fees.
A parent said the Education Department has turned a blind eye to the loot under the guise of imparting quality education and vowed to continue the fight against the arbitrary fee hike. It was pointed out that parents in Mumbai and Delhi are also fighting a similar battle and appealed to the parents in Goa to join the battle in the interest of justice and future of their children.
Another parent said the Education Department was forced to seek details of fee structure from the unaided schools only after receiving complaints from the parents.
The parents made it clear that they are not against teachers getting better salaries, but hastened to add that higher salaries can be paid from the existing fee structure.
Saying that donations are illegal, the parents have lamented that the unaided schools have so far refused to issue them the receipts for hefty donations collected from them.
