PANJIM: Chairman of the Task Force for Cujira Integrated School Complex, Siddharth Kuncalienkar, on Wednesday presented the traffic and parking master plan which promotes pedestrianisation and discourages use of vehicles in the complex.
The entire budgetary cost for the implementation of the master plan is around Rs 10 crore and work on Phase-I is expected to start by mid-April subject to approval and sanctions.
Addressing the media, Kuncalienkar said, “The major problem faced at the complex was of traffic management and many news reports have highlighted this issue. We requested GSIDC to appoint a consultant who will conduct a survey of the complex and how can it be improved.”
He added, “After the master plan was done by Rahul Deshpande and Associates, there were various discussions and meetings with all stakeholders, including Education Department, respective schools along with their architects. The main stress for the master plan is that it promotes pedestrianisation and discourages use of vehicles in the complex.”

The master plan for Phase-I comprises distinct and separate paths for students and vehicles and at no place they intersect, therefore making it a safe and student friendly complex.
Further, the plan includes a separate drop-off zone to avoid congestion in front of schools and also caters to situations where events are held the SAG. The entire complex would be disabled friendly and CCTV monitored.
“The entire complex was surveyed for traffic movement, land contouring and existing services, including rain water. Several design proposals were discussed with task force members and final design was finalised with consultation and discussion. Phase I is expected to start by mid-April subject to sanctions,” Consultant Rahul Deshpande said.
Deshpande said that phase II will include multi-utility sports complex with swimming pool, gymnasium, basket ball, table tennis and volleyball courts. “Also an administrative building with coaching centre for IAS exams, banks and directorate of education office are planned in Phase II”, he added.
In another decision, the task force chairman revealed that the Complex is to be named as Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Vidhya Sankul, Cujira.
