Paroda struggles to find land for garbage collection

MARGAO: The Paroda Gram Sabha on Sunday struggled to identify land where the garbage management system could be undertaken and the villagers lamented that in the absence of a Comunidade in the village they cannot find land for public utility.
There was much discussion on the topic with the panchayat pointing out that land owners are not willing to give their land to the panchayat to set up garbage segregation and collection centre as all keep complaining about this activity dirtying the place. Left with no option, the gram sabha then decided to seek the government’s help in procuring land to set up a garbage segregation system.
The villagers also asked the panchayat to write to the government to hand over the closed Government Primary School in the village to the panchayat to construct their panchayat ghar as the present building is found to be too small.
In fact, earlier the villagers had identified a place to construct the panchayat ghar but it was rejected by the technicians as it was low lying and prone to water logging.
The Government Primary School has not been functioning for quite some time and is used only as a polling booth during elections and by the panchayat to conduct their gram sabha meetings.
