Panaji: In view of three fatal accidents reported in just two days and a total nine in the last few days, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has called for an emergency meeting at 9:30 am at his official residence, Altinho on Tuesday.
Transport officials and traffic police have been called for the meeting where discussions on safety measures on road and strict implementation of the Motor Vehicles Act will be held.
Reacting to the accident, the Chief Minister said, “I am deeply pained to hear the loss of lives due to the tragic accident at Old Goa highway. My heartfelt condolences to all affected by this tragedy.”
The accidents occurred incidentally at the time when Goa Police have launched a strict traffic enforcement drive including ‘right of pedestrians’ at zebra crossings.
