PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has rubbished allegations by the Opposition that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari bribed Independent MLAs-elect to join the coalition government.
“Those people who have practiced (in the past of bribing MLAs to join their party) are making such baseless allegations. When you don yellow sunglasses, the whole world looks yellow. This is the same situation with them (the opposition party),” he said reacting to the allegations leveled by the Opposition.
The CM also denied instigating any MLA to shift his loyalty to BJP. Commenting on Congress’ Vishwajit Rane’s reported meeting with him, Parrikar stated, “Nobody can tell me who I should meet. I don’t go to meet anyone. If anyone has contacted me, it doesn’t mean that I have instigated him.”
He went on to add that MLAs will have to approach the CM for any development works, without which, the government would not understand what is needed for each constituency.
Asked to comment on the infighting within the Congress, Parrikar said, “It is their internal matter.”
Meanwhile, other senior BJP leaders denied closed-door meetings with any Congress MLAs. One MLA said, “We have some standards. I would rather sit at home than go to them for support. I don’t know what is in the mind of the opposition.”
