Parrikar in hurry to resolve OROP

NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar is in a tearing hurry to resolve the ticklish issue of "one rank, one pension" to the ex-servicemen before the parliament session begins lest they intensify the countrywide agitation they have started since June 15.

He held a meeting with seven representatives of the agitating Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement at his Akbar Road residence here on Thursday at the initiative of Rajya Sabha member Rajeev Chandrasekhar. He told the delegation that the file on the issue had just landed at his residence with comments from different departments and he needs to go through it.
Parrikar sought time from the veterans to let him go through all the issues that the departments have put together and promised them to have another meeting on Monday or Tuesday. IESM General Secretary Group Captain (retd) V K Gandhi said it was a positive meeting as the minister expressed the government’s resolve to implement OROP but the protests will continue until the actual decision is taken.
The veterans want the government to publicly commit a fixed date on which the OROP implementation would take place.
